A total of 124 endorsed representatives of 10 political parties and another 17 independent candidates will be competing for our votes on October 15.

The voting papers in the five electorates will each contain the names of between 24 and 33 candidates, set out by party. For our vote to be valid we will need to list at least five candidates in order of preference, but our vote will count for more if we can continue our preference ranking to include preferably 15 of the candidates and ideally all of those listed on the paper.

The Canberra Alliance for Participatory Democracy has invited all of the candidates to submit a pro forma statement of their qualifications, policy passions, how they will work with their constituents, and agreement to a series of six principles in a charter of democratic commitment.

A total of 43 of the candidates have already completed these statements and they make intriguing reading. They are certainly more informative than what is on the party websites and in the material that is now filling our letterboxes.

The statements can be viewed HERE.

The files are arranged by electorate and parties are listed in the order in which they will appear on the ballot paper.

A page is available for each of the 141 candidates.
